Also known as the gateway of Bhutan, Phuentsholing is regarded as the place of residency of the kings and queens of the Himalayan Kingdom. Situated at an altitude of 300 meters Phuentsholing is a border town of Bhutan adjacent to the Indian border town Jaigaon on the Himalayan foothills. Its name directly translates to "beautiful field" it is the religious heartland of the kingdom with many old monasteries and old temples. Bumthang is among the twenty districts comprising four valleys and blessed with the most beautiful views of the Ura La pass and the rhododendron forests that surround the valley at a slightly higher altitude.
